Article Date :18 Apr 2002

Report-back after meeting between EAAB and Services SETA.

New educational standards for the real estate industry have been handed to the Estate Agency Affairs Board (EAAB), which will soon be distributing them to stakeholders for comments. This follows a recent meeting between the Board and Ross Pillay, the manager of the Property Chamber of the Services Sector and Education Training Authority (Seta) in an effort to expedite the introduction of a new outcomes based education programme for the industry. The meeting follows previous successful meetings between the board and Ivor Blumenthal, the chief executive officer of Services in SETA.EAAB CEO, Stanley Moshidi, said in a statement that the meeting, which was also attended by Jeff Gilmour, who is an expert on outcomes-based education, was cordial and constructive. "The expressed purpose of the meeting was to identify practical ways to expedite the introduction by the Board of its outcomes based education programme in accordance with the requirements of the South African Qualifications Authority," Moshidi said. During the meeting the draft containing the new educational standards was handed to the board which in turn undertook to disseminate the contents as widely as possible for consideration by all interested parties. Moshidi said Pillay had been invited to address estate agents on the matter during the current nation-wide EAAB seminar series for 2002. The draft standards can be accessed on the Services SETA web site at www.serviceseta.org.za. The generated standards will shortly be placed for viewing on the Board's web site at www.eaab.org.za and will also be provided to interested parties on request.
