Institute committed to training and education
The Institute's commitment to training and education was given top billing by the recently elected national president Bill Rawson in his address to Central region's record attendance August 21 AGM in Sandton. Dismissing angrily the industry's frequent comparison to second-hand car salesman, Rawson appealed to the more than 400 agent gathering to concentrate on improving the industry's image and reputation through good service and upliftment of standards. The institute was particularly geared, he noted, to play a leadership role in improving the industry's image at consumer level, but greater industry participation was vital toward this end. Rawson also deviated from his prepared address to challenge the Estate Agency Affairs Board on their criticism of the Institute's lack of progress in transformation. He was particularly keen to establish the basis for the accusation, challenging the board to make known their own successes in transformation over the past three years. Central chairperson Stanley Pillay, who was re-elected to serve a further term, also embraced the benefits of industry unification, viewing the AGM as the start of new era for the Central Region while the professional body was a gateway for new opportunities. The full board for the 2002/03 term is: Stan Pillay (chairperson) and Paul Koloti (vice-chairman). Directors: Les Inglestone, Wendy Machanik, Mike Birrell, Graeme Jay, Anne Fry, Desmond Rezant, Gigi Barnes, David Maolusi, Herbie Ellison, Jeffrey Davids and Roy Harris.
