Romancing the Dragon
You will be interested to hear that more than five thousand industry leaders attended the Exhibition and participated in the various seminars, discussion groups and social functions. The Show offered an unrivalled opportunity for participants to explore new markets and develop future business relationships. The event was adjudged a resounding success by the participants and by the Asian and International Media The 2007 Show will therefore be held, once again in Shanghai, from the 7th to the 9th of September.
The Asian nations, and particularly China, now represent a huge and rapidly growing real estate market which shows a remarkable appetite for luxury "Lifestyle Developments". The exceptionally high design and build quality, as well as the scale of developments represented at the show in 2006, was conclusive evidence of this trend. But this is not just a showcase for China. Other Asian nationals and Europeans in ever larger numbers are purchasing properties in previously unconsidered destinations such as Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Brazil, Macao and even the Cape Verde Islands Over 300,000 British buyers purchased overseas properties in 2006 and the rest of Europe is equally active in the overseas property market. Exciting new leisure destinations are opening up across the globe. As a result South Africa has now dropped to 19th place in the list of the top 20 most desirable destinations as published in the influential UK overseas property magazine "A Place in the Sun". We need to market our premium properties to the world at large its time to look outwards!
No one can have failed to notice that Chinese interest and influence in Africa is growing exponentially. That in itself is surely sufficient reason to learn more about the country, its aspirations and its real estate preferences by participating in CILPS in Shanghai this year. Can our leading real estate firms really afford not to romance the Dragon?
