EAAB PRESS RELEASE
EAAB Grants estate agents qualification and PDE exemption
Wednesday, June 30, 2011
The Estate Agency Affairs Board (EAAB) is giving estate agents, aged 60 and older, the opportunity to apply for exemption from completing the NQF 4 and/or NQF 5 Qualifications in Real Estates as well as exemption from the Professional Designation Examination (PDE) against the NQF 4 and or NQF 5 Qualifications in Real Estate. It is important that the agents who qualify are aware of what the EAAB requires of them in order to be granted this exemption.
Candidates must apply to the EAAB for the grant of an exemption, accompanied by a fee prescribed by the EAAB for the period for which the applicant is exempt. Applicants must provide acceptable proof of both their age and of the fact that they have held a valid fidelity fund certificate issued by the EAAB for a continuous period of at least 5 years. In addition, candidates must hold a valid fidelity fund certificate for the current year.
“The EAAB will then investigate the applicant’s background to ensure that they are estate agents in good standing and that they have no previous criminal convictions for any estate agency related offences.” says Portia Mofikoe, Acting Executive Manager Stakeholder Relations and spokesperson for the EAAB.
The EAAB will supply the qualifying applicants with a list of the naturally occurring evidence requirements. This will entail each applicant having to compile a Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) to submit to the EAAB.
Included in the PoE should be a section for administration, which will contain: a certified copy of the applicant’s identity document, a certified copy of any certificates of achievement awarded to the applicant, and a certified copy of any certificates of competence (ie, matriculation certificate) that may be relevant to the assessment of the application.
The second requirement within the PoE is workplace evidence. This will include how the applicant canvasses properties to market for sale as well as evidence indicating the procedure adopted when determining an initial sales or rental price for the property. The applicant will need to provide the EAAB with a copy of a, recently signed, sole mandate selling and letting document their agency uses as well as a copy of the marketing plan used by the applicant.
“Once submitted, the PoE will be reviewed and an interview panel, comprised of at least three competent members appointed by the Board, will compile questions for the applicant and a personal interview will be conducted,” concludes Mofikoe.
