Consultative workshops for managing agents
The Estate Agency Affairs Board will begin hosting consultative workshops for managing agents this week, with the first being scheduled for Cape Town tomorrow. This follows the board's acceptance late last year of the industry proposal that all activities of managing agents, and not just those to do with levy collections, should be taken into its jurisdiction. Presented by the EAAB and facilitated by legal expert Prof Henk Delport the workshops will focus on incorporating the full spectrum of the activities of managing agents under the Estate Agency Affairs Act. The implications of last year's proposal are that: * All managing agents who render any management services will have to register with the EAAB and be issued with fidelity fund certificates; * The board will attend to all complaints lodged against managing agents in respect of any of the management functions and will no longer be limited only to matters pertaining to levy collections; * The Board will be in a position to take action against unscrupulous managing agents long before a potential theft of trust moneys can occur. It is also proposed to amend both the Estate Agency Affairs Act and the Code of Conduct for Estate Agents to provide for the new dispensation. "The purpose of the workshops will be to seek and obtain stakeholder input on the proposed changes before the EAAB makes a final recommendation to the Department of Trade and Industry in this regard," says board CEO Stanley Moshidi. The Cape Town workshop will take place at the Waalburg Conference Centre at 28 Wale Street, from 9h30. Further information is available from the EAAB on (011) 880-9994. Other dates and venues for the workshops are: - 30 January 2004, Premier Protea Hotel, 202 Nelson Mandela Drive, Brandwag, Bloemfontein; - 5 February 2004, Holiday Inn Durban Elangeni, 63 Snell Parade, Durban; and - 10 February 2004, The Boardwalk Conference Centre, Marine Drive, Summerstrand, Port Elizabeth Article: Property24 News for the latest real estate news, visit www.property24.co.za
