Estate Agents' Exam
Estate Agents intending to write the Certificate in Estate Agency examination on 24 August 2006 must register by no later than 28 July 2006. The reminder comes from Arnold Nel chairperson of the Pietermaritzburg & Interior region of the Institute of Estate Agents, which is presenting a course to prepare candidates for the exam.
" We cannot emphasise strongly enough how important qualifications are in our industry " says Nel. " Today it isn't enough for an estate agent simply to know how to sell, he or she also has to have a working knowledge of property marketing, property law, the intricacies of home loan finance, and to keep the interests of the client in mind at all times. This exam covers these fundamental principles."
The examination, which was introduced in 1984 and has been revised several times since then, is set by the Estate Agency Affairs Board, which is the industry's regulator. It is voluntary, and successful candidates are entitled to place the letters CEA behind their names.
Membership to the Institute of Estate Agents is voluntary and estate agents are encouraged to join as the designation MIEA signifies that the estate agent upholds the Institutes professionalism and standard of ethics within the Real Estate Industry.
